A vehicle isn't just a way to get around; it should also be a personal reflection of the owner's style. If your vehicle is lacking in this area, you've made an excellent decision in choosing to design a custom grille. However, to get the most use out of the grille, you need to start off with the right material.

While a custom grille can be designed in a wide-range of material options, the majority of grilles are designed from alloy, aluminum, stainless steel. and high-grade plastics like ABS plastic. Choosing the right material will ensure you get the look you want and the durability you need.

Finish

Consider what type of finish you are looking for with your grille. Do you want a shiny, chrome-like finish or are you looking for something subtler, like a matte? If you want a shinier finish, you want to go with an aluminum, stainless steel. or alloy option as each of these materials can be finished with a high-gloss finish to mimic chrome.

If you want a more muted look, consider an alloy or ABS plastic, as both of these options can be powder coated with a matte finish to match the color of your vehicle.

Local Climate

Consider the climate where you will be operating the vehicle. Especially if you live in an area that experiences frequent moisture or regularly has high humidity levels, this is very important. If this description matches your area, it's probably a good idea to stay away from a stainless steel grille.

Stainless steel is highly susceptible to corrosion and rust development when in this type of environment, requiring you to replace the grille prematurely. Any other material option would be better suited in this type of scenario.

Vehicle Use

How do you use your vehicle? For example, do you simply drive your vehicle for leisurely driving around town or do you frequently take your vehicle out for off-roading? If you're an average driver, just about any material option is sufficient.

However, if you're more active with your vehicle, you probably don't want to go with the ABS plastic option. While this material is very durable, it is more susceptible to denting than the metal options, which can take a lot more impact without the risk of denting or other damage.

The more effort you put towards choosing your custom grille wisely, the more satisfied you will be with the results. Check out a company like Parts Max to get started.
